The craze of Olympics has captured the animated minds too!! WowMakers, a design studio based out of Kochi, Kerala focusing on Branding and Animated Explainer Videos has developed a 199 sequence set of picture animation titled ‘Tribute to the London Olympics by WowMakers’.
It’s extremely good to know about Indian Studios like Wow Makers using the medium of Animation to express their gratitude towards prestigious occasions like London Olympics. For sure! Indian Animation is out to explore all genres of animation to get global!
The picture animation series, launched on Facebook last month, shows the Olympic torch as the most important symbol for Olympics and WowMakers mascot titled the Wow Monster, who carries the torch in the overall video. The team WowMakers believes that, a world without borders is one of the important messages of the Olympic torch and to depict this, WowMakers drew a continuous landscape containing landmarks from cities across the world. Asfar and Vipin have contributed to this picture animation video with one making the story-board and the other one digitizing it in Adobe Flash and Illustrator. For ‘The tribute to London Olympics’ WowMakers started making concepts with the universal wire-framing tools: pencil and paper with drawing rough sketches on paper and once this step was complete they digitized the complete designs excluding the background using Adobe Flash. Backgrounds were made using Adobe Illustrator & later they rendered it out to image sequences and uploaded them to Facebook according to the frame number to match the animation.
Asfar and Vipin Speaking toAnimationxpress.com about ‘A Tribute to London Olympics’,
Jaseem Thayal Shareef, Co- Founder, CCO, shared, “With the very talented animators and concept artists with us, it was not a tough task as we imagined at first. As we already had a clear idea about what we are going to do, the sketches took a few hours only. The digitizing part took a couple of days for its complete execution. We chose Facebook to air it because we wanted to receive feedback from everyone who was seeing it. If we have done a video 2D animation instead, it didn’t have direct interaction with the user and we were pretty sure it won’t have received the attention we received now. Facebook has a constraint of uploading only 200 images to a single album, so we had to plan accordingly and complete the animation in less than 200 frames.”
Wow Makers interestingly used the same color flow for the entire background to mark the Olympics spirit of bringing together all nations. By using subtle colors for the background, Wow Makers aimed to focus more attention to the Wow Monster.
The response for ‘Tribute to London Olympics has been fantastic with the video going & attracting more than a Lakh views in a couple of days time with 391 Likes and 179 Shares.
WowMakers, founded by Jaseem Thayal Shareef, Vivek Raghavan and Jithesh Lakshman on August 1, 2011 has been working on numerous Branding projects including Blackberry’s Rubus Labs and Startup Village, India’s first telecom startup incubator. Expressing more on the plans of WowMakers Studio, Jaseem, highlighted, “Our upcoming projects are combined of animated explanation videos for products concept and services which is a rising trend in India and has been there for ages in Silicon Valley. At present, the competition is less and we see ourselves being among the top animation studios in this category. If you have some idea in your mind, just go ahead and do it. Let it be any medium, but you will learn lot during the process.
